Opiate addiction is not easy to recover from. However, if you are
willing to put your best foot forward, there are options available. One
such option could entail visiting a counseling session.
Counseling or addiction therapy will work great if you are willing
to take a look inside of yourself and be honest with your therapist. It is
important to not hold anything back no matter how bad you may think it is.
I am
pretty sure they have heard it before or something much worse. Learning to
trust your therapist is a must if you do not feel comfortable or like you can
not trust your therapist I would suggest that you find another that you do feel
completely comfortable with.
I myself went to Narcotics Anonymous. At these
meetings, you will talk with others who are going through the same problems as
you. Of course, if you do not feel comfortable sharing you can opt not to
say anything. The main goal is to create fellowship among fellow addicts.
By hearing another person’s story of success, you become more
inspired for your own situation. This would not be the case if you decide
to fight the problem by yourself. Any inspiration you receive would have
to be generated from within.
Overcoming an addiction to opiates: The Beginning
Steps to drug addiction recovery
In the beginning, you will need to take your time when dealing
with your addiction. While you will want to
withdraw from the drug as much as possible, do not get discouraged if you fall
into temptation. Try again until you lose all craving for the drug.
If you continue having problems, you may have to go to an opiate addiction rehab or treatment center. You can also go to the Emergency
Room if your drug use has put you in a life-threatening situation. I have had
to do this on occasion to get through opiate withdrawal.
While the hospital rarely keeps addicts longer than 7 days, at
least you are in an environment where you are forced to overcome opiate withdrawal. In the meantime, you will be given regular
counseling sessions on how you can beat the habit.
Stop using opiates and overcome opioid addiction
When you do decide to stop using opiates and go through an opiate detox is
fine but be sure that you do this as soon as you can because many people have
said they would quit tomorrow and overdosed and died never making it to the
next day.
I would also have a plan of how you intend to stay clean my plan
was to attend NA meetings daily for 90 days and continue my addiction therapy.
What I would do is make a list of all the meetings I planed on attending and
what time they start are where the meeting is held. If you do not have a solid
recovery in place when you get out of wherever you got clean you will with out
a doubt relapse. So just take my word and make yourself a recovery plan!
Good luck
